A Group Thanks Governor Deal for His Veto of HB 757

Georgia Republicans for the FutureAttendees to this weekend’s Georgia Republican convention will see a large banner in the convention hall thanking Governor Nathan Deal for vetoing House Bill 757, the religious liberty bill. The banner is the work of Georgia Republicans for the future, a group of Georgia Republicans that opposes discrimination.

In a statement, the group’s founder, Allen Fox, said,

We are proud to stand with Republicans from across the state of Georgia in thanking our Republican Governor in vetoing House Bill 757. There are many delegates in attendance that agree with the courageous leadership of Governor Deal, but there are thousands more that are not in attendance who support his leadership. We agree with him that Georgia is a welcoming, loving and inclusive place. That sentiment, along with Governor Deal’s conservative leadership, has made Georgia the best place in the nation to do business. There is nothing more conservative than that. We are blessed that our state avoided the economic catastrophe seen recently in North Carolina and Mississippi. That is solely due to Governor Deal.

At April’s District conventions, the governor was the subject of several resolutions of disapproval over his veto of House Bill 757, including a resolution to censure him from the third district GOP. The governor will not attend the convention this weekend, citing a scheduling conflict with an annual event honoring Georgia’s top students held at the governor’s mansion.
