Party Leaders React to Primary Results

Tuesday’s party primaries largely set the table for the November elections, with a few races remaining to be decided in July runoffs. With inter=party races settled, it’s time to take aim at the other party, and Georgia GOP and Democratic party leaders didn’t waste any time.

Georgia Republican Party Chairman John Padgett issued this statement after the polls closed:

I commend all of our Republican candidates for running spirited campaigns for public office. Public service is a calling and it’s encouraging to see so many conservatives eager to make a difference in their county, state, and country.

For those candidates who earned outright victory on Election Day, we congratulate you on becoming the Party’s nominee in your respective race. To the candidates in runoff elections on July 26th, we wish you the best of luck in the months to come. Finally, we extend our very best to GOP candidates that fell short in the Republican Primary. We encourage you to remain faithful to the Party and committed to victory this fall.

As we look towards November, we must remember our shared values and shared vision for the future. While we may have worked on opposite sides during the Primary, we are back on the same team.

Together, we can stop Hillary Clinton from ever stepping foot back in the Oval Office. Together, we can protect our Red State status and re-elect Johnny Isakson to the U.S. Senate. Together, we can defeat liberal Georgia Democrats up and down the ballot. Now is the time for unity because Together We Win!

Democratic Party of Georgia Chairman DuBose Porter issued this statement:

I’d like to congratulate our Democratic candidates for running campaigns that reflect our party’s values—equal opportunity, a quality education, and a government that works for everyone. Democrats campaigned on issues that matter to Georgians, and we will continue to advocate for policies that improve the lives of everyone.

Over the next several months, Georgia Democrats will continue to hold Republicans accountable for their failed policies and divisive politics of exclusion. And we will certainly hold them accountable for creating the most dangerous presidential candidate of our lifetime—Donald Trump.

Georgia Democrats are united. And by promoting policies that lift people up rather than push them down, and breaking down barriers instead of building walls, voters will have a clear choice on November 8th. Georgia is ready for a change, they’re ready to move forward, and they’re ready to elect Democrats.
