Once State Representative Stephen Allison announced his retirement, a tidal wave of potential candidates cascaded over House District 8. Wednesday, political consultant, Bryan Miller sent a press release with the following excerpts:

Kent Woerner has announced his candidacy for the Georgia House of Representatives in House District 8. The District represents Union, Rabun, Towns and portions of White counties…

Mr. Woerner served as a public school educator, teaching social sciences at the middle and high school levels in both Clayton and Henry Counties…While working as an educator and administrator, Mr. Woerner also coached high school football, wrestling, basketball, cross country, and track.  After 32 years in public education, he retired as principal of Rabun County Elementary School…

Mr. Woerner earned a full football scholarship to Furman University in 1975 and graduated in 1979 with a bachelor’s degree in political science.  In 1979, the United States Congress commissioned Mr. Woerner as an Officer of Field Artillery in the U.S. Army where he served his country in assignments to both the National Guard and Reserves in the States of South Carolina and Georgia…

Woerner joins the earlier announced Republican candidates Matthew Gurtler, a general contractor from Rabun County and HD-8 Legislative Aide, David Barton, a builder from Union County and Joshua Littrell founder of Veterans for Cannabis. Of course we’ll have to wait until qualifying week to see who is real but it is good to see people getting involved and offering themselves for public service..
