Paulding County’s HD-19 is Officially in Play

With qualifying just weeks away, the number of political announcements are increasing. Apparently incumbency no longer guarantees an easy re-election. This time, House District 19 in eastern Paulding County, incumbent Paulette Rakestraw is getting a serious challenge from law enforcement professional Joe Duvall.

The Navy veteran is an empty-nester with two grown children and a strong want to continue his public service in the legislature.

Campaign manager Bryan Miller shared this information with GeorgiaPol about this strong conservative leader:

Following his service in the United States Navy, Joe began his career with the Marietta Police Department in 1987. Currently a Major within the department, Joe serves as the Zone One Commander and also as the Special Response Commander in charge of SWAT and Hostage Negotiations Units.

Joe earned a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Columbus State University, and a Bachelor of Science Degree from Kennesaw State University. He is a graduate of the F.B.I. National Academy, the D.E.A. Drug Unit Commander’s Academy, the Georgia Law Enforcement Command College, Senior Management Institute for Police at Boston University, and the Dale Carnegie Leadership Program. He is a member of The International Association of Chiefs of Police, The Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police, Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy Associates, The Cobb County Law Enforcement Association, The Fraternal Order of Police, and the National Rifle Association.

Joe has been married to his wife Lisa for twenty-seven years. They are the proud parents of Chase (24) and Rebecca (21). The Duvalls are members of Dallas First United Methodist Church.

House District 19 is former Speaker Glen Richardson’s old seat that was held briefly through a special election and then won by Ms. Rakestraw in the 2010 elections and held for the past three uneventful terms.
