The author of the Outset op-ed is outraged that cons-for-hire aren’t as outraged as he is about what he thinks is outrageous. Just how old is that guy?
Funniest line: “Trump forced out conservative governors like Scott Walker, Bobby Jindal, and Rick Perry.” Yeah, that’s the ticket.
He states that he is a youngster. Jingoist populism is not the exclusive reserve of us geezers. But how myopic do you need to be to not see that Bobby Jindal wouldn’t have even carried Louisiana?
The idea of Bobby Jindal far exceeded the reality of Bobby Jindal.
He’s one I had great hopes for several years ago. His shelf life caught up to him when the oil bubble burst, and about that time he did a full flip flop on Common Core. School Choice and the state’s role was one of his strong suits. Instead, he ran away from a large part of what made him stand out because of the panic that the people who still don’t want to learn what CC is and isn’t started.
With the caucuses and primaries starting next week I think we should start a prediction thread. The winner gets bourbon. On Charlie of course. Here are my predictions for the first three. I’m going with order and not percent.
Iowa:
1) Cruz
2) Trump
3) Rubio
4) Bush
5) Carson
6) who cares
New Hampshire:
1) Trump
2) Rubio
3) Cruz
4) Kasich
5) Bush
6) Who cares
South Carolina:
1) Rubio
2) Cruz
3) Trump

Perhaps we’ll bump this up to a front page post/question later in the week. Having a busy Monday thus far.
That said, I’ll go ahead and say I expect the field to be small enough by the time we get to SC that I’m not sure 4th matters – because I will be shocked if there’s more than one of Rubio/Jeb/Christie/Kasich still in the race at that point.
I also know NH likes to surprise and the polls tend to move after NH. I’ll save any additional predictions (which I openly admit I suck at) for later.
Trump runs the table on all three.
If snow or ice threatens to keep me tethered I typically run out for beer and propane.
Somewhat substantial opinion from SCOTUS this morning. In a 6-3 decision in Montgomery v Louisiana, the Court held that it has jurisdiction to review the Louisiana Supreme Court’s decision, and it reversed that court’s decision refusing to give retroactive effect to Miller v. Alabama in cases of state collateral review.
What does that mean? It means additional limitations on life sentences for youthful criminals, thousands of which now have sentences deemed unconstitutional. SCOTUSblog’s Lyle Denniston with commentary here.
