Matt Brass Announces State Senate Run

Now that Mike Crane has committed to run for the third district congressional seat currently held by Lynn Westmoreland, we now have a candidate for Crane’s seat in the State Senate. Matt Brass, who currently serves as Westmoreland’s Chief of Staff will run for the 28th district seat.

Brass is a Newnan native who served in the Navy and attended the University of Georgia. Prior to working for congressman Westmoreland, Brass was a golf professional. Brass, and his wife Maegan, have been married for 9 years and have two sons, Freeman and Archie.

In the 2011 special election to replace Mitch Seabaugh, Brass came in third behind Crane. He intends to resign his position with Westmoreland on March 1st so he can concentrate on the State Senate campaign.

Brass released the following statement accompanying his candidacy announcement:

I am fearful of where our nation is headed and believe the 10th amendment has more meaning now than any other time in history. Our Christian values, our Constitutional rights, and our southern heritage are all under attack. Our veterans who bravely served and defended our nation are being cast aside and neglected. Due to political correctness we have disarmed our law enforcement from their ordained duty to protect us and stripped all educators of their God given ability to teach our children. With failed policy continually being mandated from an out of control federal government, our state must step in where D.C. has fallen. If our federal government will not fight to protect all this then our state must.

We are fortunate to live in the greatest state in the nation. Georgia is home to the world’s busiest airport. With the Savannah Port expansion project, we will soon have the largest port on the entire eastern seaboard. These, combined with our world famous southern hospitality, prove Georgia is a great place to work and as a result, we’re growing at a rapid pace.

With such economic growth on the horizon, it will take solid, conservative, common sense policy to ensure Carroll, Coweta, Heard, and Troup counties prosper from these opportunities. This policy – above all – must also protect us as Christians, Constitutionalists, and Georgians.

I am proud and thankful to have worked, learned and fought alongside a man that has fought this fight for many years.
